From the Workbench to the Wild

Welcome to my digital workshop and field journal. This space documents my past and present projects that blend custom engineering with biological observation — both at home and out in the wild. Whether I am writing Python scripts for edge AI systems, dialing in the strict environmental controls to cultivate carnivorous plants, or logging field observations while hiking backcountry trails and scuba diving, my objective remains the same: to better understand and interact with the natural world, both by building the tools to measure it and by immersing myself in it.

Custom Hardware & Edge AI

  • Project Sparrow: Environmental monitoring network.
  • Project BirdCam: Real-time avian classification utilizing a Jetson Nano.
  • Project Junco: Timelapse photography to document natural history.

Botanical & Aquatic Cultivation

  • Carnivorous Horticulture: Cultivation techniques for Drosera, jewel orchids, and pitcher plants.
  • Invertebrate Lifecycles: Rearing aquatic organisms and documenting events like the multi-month maturation and emergence of dragonfly nymphs.

Field Expeditions

  • Scuba Diving: Exploring and documenting coastal marine life.
  • National Parks & Trails: Logs from backpacking and hiking terrains like Lassen Volcanic, Glacier, and Yosemite.
  • Regional Exploration: Field notes from coastal California and international trips like Hokkaido.
